Exemplary Service Earns Kudos from the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany
WICHITA, KS, November 09, 2009 - As the first tier subcontractor to Hidden Water, Inc. (HWI), Solutient Technologies' Chad Hollaway received accolades for his exemplary brokerage services from Mr. Joseph Kane, Command Radiation Safety Office, Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB), Albany.
The U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command (JMC) under guidance from the Radiological Affairs and Safety Office (RAS) at Yorktown, VA, contracted with HWI to supply a Waste Broker to provide health physics support to various Navy and Marine Corps installations located in ME, CT, PA, MD, VA, MS, GA, NC, SC, FL, and the Washington DC area. The purpose of the brokerage run was to pickup excess radiological commodities and waste stored at the various facilities located within these states and areas. Mr. Hollaway performed inspections, provided expertise on proper packaging, marking, labeling, manifesting, and arranged for the loading and transportation of inventoried materials to a JMC-approved facility for processing, recycle and/or disposal.
Specifically, Mr. Kane commented that "The contractor's employees were quite professional and easy to work with. The gentleman in charge, Mr. Hollaway, was quite thorough.... They were incredibly well organized and didn't have a problem with the massive quantity of material we had accumulated. These guys deserve some kudos!"
As just one stop on the brokerage run, the MCLB Albany had accumulated just over a ton of waste containing approximately 6,100 Curies of radioactive material. Mr. Kane further commented that "The work was completed in less than two days with little to no problems. Thank you for arranging the pickup for my command."
Hidden Water and Solutient Technologies would like to thank Ms. Sally Winn, Contract Specialist and Mr. Frank Whitaker, JMC Project Manager, for the opportunity to provide contract Waste Brokerage Services for this critical project. Solutient Technologies Receives Commendation from Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for Phase 4 Decontamination and Decommissioning of the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Thorium Nitrate Stockpile Facilities
OAK RIDGE, TN, September 16, 2008 -- As the first tier subcontractor to World Environmental, Inc. (WEI), Solutient Technologies' Brad Squibb was publically commended by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for WEI's outstanding project execution supporting the Defense Logistics Agency/Defense National Stockpile Center (DLA/DNSC) in the Thorium Nitrate Stockpile Stewardship and Disposition Program, Phase 4 Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) and Multi-Agency Radiation Survey & Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) Compliance Project.
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in its role as Remediation Contractor for the DLA/DNSC, acknowledged World Environmental's outstanding contributions to the project. The WEI team, led by Brad Squibb, provided radiological remediation and D&D activities, including waste transportation and burial. The U. S. Army Joint Munitions Command managed the contract with WEI for the DNSC.
The project involved the decontamination of warehouse buildings and ground areas at Curtis Bay, Maryland, and Hammond, Indiana, for compliance with the final release criteria required for removal of these depots from U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license. Upon completion of this decontamination project, the facilities underwent Final Status Survey (FSS) verifications conducted on behalf of the DNSC by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), under contract with ORNL, UT-Battelle, LLC.
This uniquely complex project required that MARSSIM clean-up requirements and standards be fully met to ensure that traces of source material, natural uranium and thorium, were successfully removed. Meeting this requirement has allowed DSC to request that NRC remove two depots from the license. The project involved hundreds of acres and tens of buildings at Curtis Bay and Hammond Depots, and required application of a rigorous NRC-defined process in conjunction with utilization of sophisticated, state-of-the-art characterization, verification, and well-conceived field remediation methods.
Mr. Bill Hermes from ORNL presented the award to Brad Squibb commemorating the thousands of safe man-hours worked involving the following metrics:
- Curtis Bay Depot
- D&D (6 buildings, 14 open areas)
- Waste (48 railcars)
- Hammond Depot
- D&D (2 buildings, 7 open areas)
- Waste (42 railcars)
The entire staff at Solutient Technologies is extremely proud to have participated with the World Environmental team to successfully execute of this important project.
